!!! Request for Workshop Proposals!!! The planning committee for the 2012 Joint Users’ Meeting is now soliciting proposals for potential workshops that users are interested in organizing. We welcome proposals for workshops of interest to the users of the NSLS and CFN User facilities, as well as workshops that look forward to new techniques and scientific areas that will be fostered by NSLS-II project.

Workshop proposals will be accepted through Friday, November 18, 2011

Please note: The tentative schedule for workshops will be Monday and Tuesday afternoon for half-day workshop and all Day Wednesday for full-day workshops.

Following are guidelines for submitting workshop proposals:

In suggesting a workshop, please provide the following:

  • Name(s) of the workshop organizer(s)
  • Duration of workshop (full- or half-day)
  • A paragraph describing the workshop’s subject, and please include the names of potential speakers and the tentative subjects they may address
  • Any additional comments that may help support your proposal
  • A preliminary estimated travel budget for reimbursing expenses for your speakers. The UEC provides a workshop budget that cannot exceed $6000 for full-day workshops and $3000 for half day workshops.

*Consider the following estimate travel costs when planning your workshop budget and selecting your speakers:

If the speaker is located:

  • Local ($0 - $500)
  • Eastern US ($500-$1k)
  • From California, Western US ($1k - $1.5k)
  • International ($1k – $2k)

Each year we try to have at least one educational outreach workshop that would introduce new communities that are currently not using synchrotron science. All input is welcome.
